Reggae Boyz snatch crucial point against Canada

JAMAICA'S REGGAE Boyz got off to a good start in the semi-final-round campaign with a 1-1 draw against Canada in their Group Two CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at BMO Field in Canada.
A 47th minute goal by Julian de Guzman put Canada into the lead while Jamaica's Andy Williams equalised with a curling right-side corner to silence the home crowd in the 52nd minute. The game was the first in this phase of the qualifying series, which consists of three groups of four teams playing on a home and away basis.
Both teams began tentatively with heavy focus on possessing the ball and a lot of diagonal passes at the back in the opening minutes. Gradually, Canada, picked up the pace launching a series of assaults in the Reggae Boyz half of the field. Jamaica seemed content to defend as there was not much commitment to get forward up to the 25th minute. Canada appeared frustrated at times and Jamaicas strategy seemed to be working as it took some of the flair out of their opponents while launching a few attacks of their own...More in the News |More in the Forum
